2026年8月9日 16:01

The Digital Humanities Alliance for Research and Teaching Innovations (DHARTI) is seeking proposals from educational institutions and/or stakeholders from the G.L.A.M. [galleries, libraries, archives, and museums ]sector in India to host the DHARTI 2026 biennial conference scheduled to take place in December 2026.

  • A 2-day conference with multiple parallel sessions
  • Accompanying pre-conference workshops
  • A respectful, collaborative platform stimulating debates on past, present, and future of Digital Humanities in India in all configurations

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND BRIEF OVERVIEW OF PAST CONFERENCES

The Digital Humanities Alliance for Research and Teaching Innovations or DHARTI, is an initiative toward organizing and facilitating digital practices in arts and humanities scholarship in India, both within and beyond academic institutes. DHARTI is India’s first Digital Humanities Collective and is affiliated as a Constituent Organization of the The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) DHARTI, in its previous avatar as the Digital Humanities Alliance of India (DHAI) successfully held its inaugural conference in June 2018 at IIM Indore, which was organized jointly by IIM Indore and IIT Indore. The two-day conference with the theme: “Contestations, Connections and Collaborations” saw participation from more than 50 national and international delegates from 16 Indian states and 5 countries. DHARTI 2020 conference organized as India’s first twitter conference in January 2020 that also saw tremendous participation from DH enthusiasts from across the world.

The second DHARTI 2022 biennial conference was held from February 21 to 25, 2022, with the theme: “The Digital Divides: Discontents, Debates and Discussions” and with the aim to acknowledge the vertiginous divides, celebrate the productive debates, and encourage new models of thinking about humanistic inquiry in a post-Covid digital landscape. Thus far, participation at all DHARTI events has been transdisciplinary with representation from diverse disciplines including (but not limited to) Language, Literature, Visual Art, Performance / Theatre Studies, Media Studies, History, Sociology, Psychology, Language Technologies, Library Studies, Methodologies as well as Software and Critical Computational Studies. These modes of participation are representative of the aims of DHARTI, namely, to provide a methodological commons to promote and accommodate the diverse nature of DH studies within the Humanities, Social Sciences, and beyond through interdisciplinary research and pedagogy. DHARTI also aims to foster connections and associations with fellow DH organizations from the Global South that are similarly committed toward a decolonized praxis of DH.

The third DHARTI 2024 biennial conference was held from 10–13 December 2024 at IIT Jodhpur, with the theme “Digital Subject/ivities in the Global South.” The conference brought together scholars, practitioners, and students to discuss emerging methods, pedagogies, and critical debates in Digital Humanities within Global South contexts.

Besides conferences, DHARTI also conducts workshops and talk series. In July 2020, a DHARTI panel on “Toward a Postcolonial/Decolonial Digital Humanities” for DH2020 was held online, streamed live on YouTube, and archived on the Humanities Commons Portal. In December 2020, DHARTI launched the DHARTI Speaks! Webinar series with a talk on Electronic Literature as DH-Perspectives from Ghana and India. In August and September 2025, the talks on electronic literature and AI were conducted as part of the series and  we have an upcoming talk series which will be regularly posted on our website. Call for Hosts: Tagung „Digital History 2026“

2024年4月9日 17:44

  • 2021: Universität Göttingen (virtuell durchgeführt), „Digital History. Konzepte, Methoden und Kritiken digitaler Geschichtswissenschaft“;
  • 2023: HU Berlin, „Digitale Methoden in der geschichtswissenschaftlichen Praxis. Fachliche Transformationen und ihre epistemologischen Konsequenzen“;

Publikationen sollten in jedem Fall Open Access erfolgen.

  • einen Vorschlag für ein Tagungsmotto, der überzeugend begründet, welches für die Forschungscommunity relevante übergreifende Themenfeld im Mittelpunkt stehen soll. Mit Blick auf eine erfolgreiche Umsetzung des Tagungsmottos können die Arbeitsschwerpunkte am Ausrichtungsort, Vorschläge für mögliche Keynotereferent:innen, inhaltliche Überlegungen zum Workshopprogramm und weitere Gestaltungspunkte für die Veranstaltung angeführt werden;
  • einen Terminvorschlag (bevorzugt im September). Dabei ist auf potentiell konkurrierende Konferenzen zu achten. Der Termin ist frühzeitig auf der Website bekanntzugeben;
  • eine Aussage über die Verwendung aller für die Organisation und Abwicklung der Tagung notwendigen Systeme (z.B. Conftool, Easychair, etc.);
  • eine Einschätzung zu den Möglichkeiten einer teilweisen virtuellen Partizipation (z.B. zur Übertragung von Keynotes);
  • Ideen für Social Events;
  • Vorschläge zur Erreichung einer hohen Sichtbarkeit der Tagung;
  • Maßnahmen zur Förderung von Early Career Researchers / Studierende;

DHNB Call for Conference Hosts 2025

2022年12月8日 16:53

DHNB – CALL FOR HOSTS

The Digital Humanities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries (DHNB) Board invites proposals to host the 2025 DHNB Conference.

The DHNB conference has become a fixed annual event in the DH calendar. After successful events in Oslo, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Copenhagen, virtually in Riga, and hybrid in Uppsala, our next DHNB conference will be online from 8–10 March 2023. It is jointly organized by the University of Oslo, the University of Bergen, and the University of Stavanger. The 2024 conference will be held on-site in Reykjavík, Iceland.

As a conference host, you can highlight exciting DH initiatives and research. The proposed time for the 9th annual DHNB conference is the first half of March 2025. We encourage proposals from Nordic and Baltic countries, particularly Lithuania and Estonia. The conference duration is 2.5 days, with additional days for pre-conference workshops.

Hosting Criteria for an on-site DHNB2025 Conference

The call is for an in-person event, but proposers are encouraged to suggest a format that would include a virtual component, e.g. live streaming of the sessions, a hybrid conference, etc.

The main criteria for proposing a location/institution to host the conference are:

  1. A suitable and accessible location, including a venue with a lecture hall big enough to seat all conference participants for keynote talks and the Annual General Meeting (AGM), as well as meeting spaces and smaller rooms for individual sessions and workshops. As a rough guide for the in-person events: there were approximately 200 participants and 3–5 parallel sessions at the 2016 and 2017 conferences in Oslo and Gothenburg, whereas Helsinki 2018 and Copenhagen 2019 had around 300 participants. Other essential requirements include high-speed Internet access, AV equipment, adequate catering facilities and various accommodation options for conference delegates. We recommend having a venue which will be suitable for parallel sessions.
  2. Possible sources of funding to cover the organization costs: costs will typically include renting the conference venue, salary for part-time conference organizer and administration of registration. If possible, keep costs down by using conference facilities at a university campus.
  3. Sufficient human resources to form an organizing committee and run the conference: we recommend a program committee with approximately ten members and a separate local organizing committee of 5–10 persons. Based on the experience from previous conferences, one should allocate a minimum of 4 person-months for the practical organization of the conference and some volunteers during the event.

The resources described above are typical for any conference.

In addition to the above, we will take the following into account in the selection process (in unprioritized order):
1) air and rail transport connections,
2) cost for delegates (travel, accommodation, fees, etc.),
3) reliability of partner institutions,
4) outreach opportunities for DHNB.

DHNB has no central funds available for organizing the conference. The DHNB Board and the current conference organizing committee will advise on matters related to the organization of the conference. A conference handbook will be available for 2025 organisers. The Local Organizers Committee and the Program Committee, which the Board will appoint in collaboration with local organizers, will decide on the conference theme and program.

Format & Deadline for Proposals

Proposals should include a rough budget and potential funding sources, a description of the venue, and notes regarding the human resources available.

Please send proposals and inquiries to the Chair of DHNB, Annika Rockenberger, annika.rockenberger@ub.uio.no.

Deadline for expression of interest: January 15, 2023. Deadline for final proposals: January 30, 2023.
