Hello, colleagues! Thank you for your interest in the East Asian International Workshop on Ancient Philosophy (March 7–8, 2026, the University of Seoul).
Purpose. This workshop aims to strengthen friendships and scholarly ties among researchers of ancient philosophy across East Asia. We warmly welcome not only completed research but also early-stage work and idea-sharing—please feel free to tell us about the projects you are working on. Presentations by early-career researchers are especially encouraged.
Format & Sustainability. The workshop will be hybrid. To keep it sustainable, in-person travel and accommodation will be self-funded and self-arranged.

Title & Abstract
Modeling Across the Humanities: Combining theory with practice in research and teaching
The presentation will start with a short introduction to modeling, before a number of examples from different disciplines in the humanities will be shown, with some notes on modeling in the sciences. Various theoretical approaches to modeling will be introduced with the aim of supporting a critical evaluation of modeling practices and its connection to scholarly disciplines.
The ERC Project “Regionalizing Infrastructures in Chinese History” and KU Leuven Early Modern History Research Group are organizing a workshop and discussion with Dr. Javier Cha (University of Hong Kong) and Hu Jing (Berlin State Library). The workshop, titled Neo4j-Enabled Readings of Intergenerational Mobility and Marriage in Premodern Korea will take place on Monday, September 1, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at KU Leuven.
텍스트에 산재한 인간의 감정을 어떻게 분석할 수 있을까? 수량적 문학 분석의 방법의 하나인 감성 분석은 주로 감정값이 매겨진 감성어휘의 빈도와 분포를 측정하여 서사 내 주인공이 겪는 감정의 흐름을 추적한다. 물론 이 방법은 작품을 이해하는 데 큰 도움을 주지만 어휘로 표현된 감정만을 측정하는 것이기에 해석이 제한적이다. 반면 정동이론은 외부에서 신체의 감정을 촉발한 계기를 하나의 사건으로 보고 이 사건의 관계를 정치적, 사회적, 역사적, 물질적, 문화적, 포스트식민지적 등의 측면에서 파악한다. 정성적 해석이 읽기의 주요방법이다. 언뜻 보아도 거리가 멀어 보이는 감정에 관한 두 방법론을 상보적으로 연결할 수 없을까? 본 세미나는 이 질문에 대한 답을 구하는 첫걸음으로 정동연구 이론에 관한 웨비나를 진행하고자 한다. ****
